I am sure that each of us remembers where we were four years ago. We remember watching the TV, mute horror on our faces, as the towers came down, as the bodies flew through the air in a desperate attempt at life or finding the thought of leaping out of a burning building preferable than remaining. We remember the unflagging courage of the firemen going up instead of down, fighting their way through people clammoring to get out of those doomed buildings. We remember the speechlessness of the newscasters and the tears that ran down our faces unnoticed. Nothing like this had ever happened here before.

Yet, even in the middle of the chaos and the horror, we saw selfless acts of bravery and human compassion. We survived. We picked up those who were left, celebrated the lives of those who lost theirs that horrific day. We, as a nation, went on.

Now, in this year, we see devestation akin to four years ago with our brothers and sisters on the Gulf Coast. We mourn. We pray. We hope. We pull together and pick one another up. It is what makes this nation great. We transcend politics, religion, race--all the ostensible things that divide us-- and reach out for one another in compassion and love.

Never forget this day. Never forget those who lost their lives that day. Never forget to help those around you. Never forget those who are hurting still. Never forget those who are fighting for the oppressed. Be strong.

Be prepared to weep:

I never have and I never will. IMO the middle east should be nothing but a parking lot right now.

This is not a political discussion, midnyte. This is a remembrance of those who died, plain and simple. Please don't turn it into a political debate. Save that for another day and place. The people who died that day were not in the military. They were not on the battle front. They were innocent victims of a terrorist attack. The lost potential is what most of us weep for. The loss to their friends and families, their parents and children mourn and it is for them I remember.

Anger? Sure, I have some anger over what happened. But, for this one day, for these few hours, I set that aside for something more humane.

You know, sometimes I look at things like this and think of something to say.. But then I realize: Hell - everything has already BEEN said.

So here I am, and I have nothing to say.

Nature kills people. People kill people. Big surprise. Unless I know the victims, I have no reason to mourn. Even then, I know very few people that would make me mourn at their death.

Please remember not only the big propaganda that is going on, but the people who do suffer. I'm not talking about USA, I'm talking about africa, asia, the middle east, etc. where people really suffer.

It was really bad what happened there, but it was nothing compared to the stuff that is going on all around the world. The 9/11 hit the USA mostly in the self esteem - if it hadn't be a terrostic attack noone would talk about it nowadays.

And sorry about the poor americans on the gulf coast - but the poor iraqis you slaughtered there have my sympathy, not your soldiers.

If you really want to remember the ones that died, than don't only think about the people in your own country - think farther. Think about the poor people in afghanistan who suffered under the 'war against terror', think about the poor iraqis that where slaughtered in that war, think about the poor africans who have nothing to eat,... I could go on forver...

*sighs* No one is saying to forget those EVERYWHERE who suffer needlessly. All need to be remembered. All need assistance. All need support and remembrance. However, -today-, this ONE day, let us remember our own who have died and, for ONE DAY, let us take care of our own.

/closing my own thread as it seems that it is impossible for politics to stay out of the discussion
